What is an AI agent for personal finance?

It is an AI that does money chores instead of only talking about them. A chatbot can explain what an APR is; an agent can open your card’s site in your own signed-in browser, download this month’s statement, turn it into a table, sort the spending and tell you which subscription charged twice. The difference is that it acts: it opens pages, reads files, fills forms and saves results.

What money chores can it do each month?

Most of a monthly money routine is reading, copying and checking, which is the work an agent does well. These are the pieces Minda has today, from the agent itself to the skills in its gallery’s Finance & accounting category.

• Gather statements. "In the Money workspace, open my checking and card accounts and download this month’s statements." You sign in; the agent does the clicking.
• Turn a page into a table. On a transactions page, Extract data saves the page’s table to Excel or CSV with no AI model at all.
• Sort spending. The Sort expenses skill (/expenses) puts each transaction into categories such as Housing, Utilities, Groceries, Dining, Transport and Subscriptions, totals each one and lists recurring payments and possible duplicates.
• Check against your records. Reconcile two tables (/reconcile) matches a bank export against your own list by amount and date, then shows what matched, what is missing on either side and what differs. It never invents or changes a row.
• Read a bill or receipt. Read an invoice (/invoice) lists the line items, checks the maths against the stated total, and writes "not shown" instead of guessing.
• Watch a price before you buy. A rule can watch a product page and tell you when the price crosses a line you set, such as a TV dropping under $400.
• Keep a budget. Ask for a budget tracker and Make a page builds one that runs offline in a tab of its own, with no network and no access to the rest of Minda.

How do you set it up safely?

1. Make a Money workspace and sign in there to your bank, card and bill sites yourself. Each workspace keeps its own sign-ins, and only your own words send the agent into one.
2. Leave Ask before paying on, in Settings → AI agent → Access. It is on from the start: a press that pays, buys or places an order, and any card or bank details typed, wait for your OK.
3. Turn on Careful in the chat box’s Modes menu for money chats. With Auto on, a step that sends, submits, deletes, uploads, types a password or card, or gives access then waits for you too.
4. Set a rule per site in Settings → AI agent → Access. Block a site and the agent cannot read or open it: Minda enforces the block, not the model. For example, block your brokerage and let the agent read only your bank statements.
5. For the most private set-up, turn on Keep SI on this computer and pick a model running in Ollama. Cloud models and Minda AI are then off for every chat and task.
6. Ask one-off questions about a statement in a temporary chat, which is never saved.

Can an AI agent pay a bill or move money?

It can get you to the last step, and with Minda’s defaults it stops there. Ask before paying makes the agent wait before any press that pays, buys or places an order, and before typing card or bank details; before that step it is told to check that the item, the amount and the total are what you asked for. In a background task, the step waits in Tasks and Minda tells you.

The useful split is: the agent prepares, you pay. "Open the electric company’s site, find this month’s bill, check it against last month’s and fill in the payment" leaves you one card to read and one button to press.

• Waits for you by default: a press that pays, buys or places an order; card or bank details typed.
• Waits for you with Careful on: sending, submitting, deleting, uploading, typing a password, giving access.
• Never done by the agent: solving a CAPTCHA, or typing a password or code that a page gave it.

What gets sent, and what stays on your computer?

A statement you add to a chat goes to the model you picked, so pick deliberately. With Minda AI it goes to Minda’s server and that model’s vendor; with your own key, to that provider; with Ollama, to the model on your computer.

• Keep SI on this computer: only models in Ollama answer; cloud models, Minda AI and the AI’s web search, translation and pictures are off, and nothing is sent to them.
• A log without the words: the AI activity log lists each request’s provider, model, host, character counts and page titles, never the words themselves.
• Redact before you share: Minda Files’ Redact PDF blacks out the words you type and, if you want, every email address, phone number and card number, and redraws the pages so nothing is left under the boxes. Protect PDF adds a password. Both run in your browser.
• Locked statements open: a statement PDF that forbids editing, as bank statements often do, opens and changes in Minda Files’ tools.
• Passwords stay in your system: saved passwords are kept encrypted by your operating system’s keystore, never as plain text.

Which money jobs fit an agent, and what do they cost?

The agent has no daily limit on any plan. Its steps and replies are AI requests, paid in Minda AI credits on Minda’s hosted models or by your provider on your own key, while the no-AI tools cost nothing.
