What does deep research do that a chat answer does not?
Deep research builds a report from many pages and cites only the pages it read. A chat answer comes from the model’s memory, in one pass, with sources it may half-remember; a research run plans the question first, searches, opens the pages, reads them, cross-checks one against another, and writes the report with each claim tied to a page it opened. A claim with no page behind it is not in the report.
In Minda Super Intelligence that is the chat’s Research mode, on every plan. It runs in Minda’s built-in browser, so the pages it reads are the pages you would open, and a page behind a sign-in you have in that workspace can be read too. The result saves as PDF, Word or Slides (.pptx), citations included.
How do I run a deep research report?
- Open the AI chat (Alt+Q) and turn on Research in the chat box’s Modes menu, or type /research followed by your question.
- Write the question as a brief, not a keyword: what the report must settle, the span of time, the kinds of sources you trust ("peer-reviewed and official statistics only"), and the length you want.
- Read the plan it shows and let it run. It searches, reads many sources and cross-checks them; press Stop at any time, and open its tab to watch.
- Check the citations: open two or three. Each points at a page the run read, so the check takes a minute and tells you whether the report deserves your trust.
- Save it as PDF, Word or Slides (.pptx), or copy the text into a note and keep working there.
How do I keep what I read as I go?
- Copy to note. Right-click a post, a selection or empty space on a page and choose Copy to note, then New note or one of your recent notes. The text, its pictures and a card with the source are saved, so the page is cited before you have written a word.
- Highlight. Select text on a page, right-click it and choose Highlight, or Highlight in colour. The highlight is marked again when you come back to the page, and every highlight is in the Library.
- Video transcript. On YouTube, or any page with captions, right-click and choose Video transcript: Save to note, Copy, or Ask AI about this video.
- Text from images. Right-click a picture and choose Copy text from image, or Image text to note; Windows reads the text on this computer and nothing is uploaded.
- Notes. The note editor has headings, lists and to-dos and reads PDF and Office files; PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files open in a tab as they download.
How do I find it all again?
One search covers your saved pages, notes, highlights and AI chats in one place, so a line you highlighted in March and a report you ran in May come back from the same box. In the address bar, type @ and pick @history, @bookmarks, @tabs or @ai, then what you are looking for.
The chat can search it too: ask "what did I save about lithium prices" and the SI agent looks through your saved pages, notes and highlights before it answers, and it pulls @tabs, @bookmarks, @history, notes, files and video transcripts into the chat as context when you ask for them.
A workflow for a student
- Turn the assignment into one question and run deep research on it. Read the report for the shape of the argument, not as the answer.
- Open the three citations that carry the argument. Copy to note the pages you will cite, and highlight the exact lines.
- Write in a note of your own, with the clipped cards beside it; each card keeps the source, so the reference list writes itself.
- Ask the chat to check your draft against the clipped pages before you hand it in: "which of my claims has no page behind it?".
A workflow for an analyst
- Write the brief once, as a saved note: the question, the span of time, the sources you trust and the ones you do not.
- Run deep research with the brief as the question, in the workspace that holds the sign-ins to the sources (a market data site, a subscription you pay for).
- Save the report as Word for the memo or as Slides for the meeting; the citations come with it.
- For a topic you follow, make it a schedule: a scheduled AI brief runs from every 15 minutes to a cron of your own, while Minda is open, in that workspace’s own sign-ins, and reports to you.
- For a call about it, meeting notes transcribe the meeting’s sound and your microphone into a note as you talk, on Google Meet, Zoom web, Teams or any tab, with a summary, decisions and to-dos at the end. Audio is never saved.
What does it cost?
Everything on this page is on every plan; the plans differ by Minda AI credits, never by functions.
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $25 a month, or $240 a year; a 7-day trial, no card |
| Minda AI credits a month | 100 | 2,000 |
| Deep research, notes, highlights, one search | Yes | Yes |
| Your own keys or Ollama | No credits used | No credits used |
| Students | Everything above | 50% off for 12 months with a school email |
Limits
- Deep research cites only pages it could read: a paywall, a CAPTCHA or a sign-in that workspace does not have is left to you, and a page it could not open is not in the report.
- A research run is an AI request: Minda AI credits on Minda’s hosted models (100 a month on Free, 2,000 on Pro), or none with your own keys or Ollama.
- Meeting notes label speakers as You and Others only; names are not detected, and audio is never saved.
Questions
Does deep research make up sources?
It cites only what it read: it plans, searches, reads many pages and cites those pages. A claim with no page behind it is not in the report. Open two or three citations to check; each points at a page the run opened.
Can I save the report as a document?
Yes: PDF, Word or Slides (.pptx), citations included. Or copy it into a note and keep working there, with the pages you clipped beside it.
Is there a student price?
Yes: Pro at 50% off for 12 months with a school email address, checked again every year. Deep research, notes and highlights are on the Free plan too; the student price buys more Minda AI credits.
Where do my notes and highlights live?
In Minda on your computer, with your saved pages and AI chats, all searched in one place. The note editor has headings, lists and to-dos and reads PDF and Office files.
